Question on Average Velocity

  1. A car travels along a straight line for first half time with a speed of 40 km h-¹ and the second half time with a speed of 60 km h-¹. Find the average speed of the car.

Ans: 50km/hr

2.  A motor cyclist goes from station A to B at 40 km/hr and then returns from B to A at 120km/hr . Calculate (i) average speed (ii) average velocity during the round trip.

Ans:- (i) 60 km/hr  (ii) zero

3.  A car covers the first one third of a distance x at a speed of 10km/hr the second one third at a speed of 20 km/hr  and the last one third at a speed of 60 km/hr Determine the average speed of the car over the entire distance x.

Ans:- 18km/hr

4.  A car moves at a velocity 2-24 km/hr in first minute, at 3.60 km/hr in the second minute and at 5-18 km/hr  in the third minute. Calculate the average velocity in these three minutes.

Ans:- 3.67km/hr
